Welcome Our New President of the Georgia Sheriffs' Association

Sheriff Logan Marshall Is Sworn In

McDuffie County Sheriff Logan Marshall was sworn in by the Judge William B. Swan, Jr., as the 2009-2010 President of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association, Inc. during the annual Summer Training Conference on July 23 in Greene County.  “It is an honor to be sworn in at the President of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association.  I look forwarding to serving my fellow sheriffs as well as the citizens of my community during the next year,” stated Sheriff Marshall.

“For over 38 years Sheriff Logan Marshal has served and protected the citizens of our state.  He is a man of character and competence, and a proven leader.  As President of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association, Sheriff Marshall is positioned to offer his considerable skill and experience to all sheriffs and the citizens of our great State,” stated Terry Norris, Executive Director of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association.

In 1971 Sheriff Marshall began his law enforcement career with the Thomson Police Department. Five years later he accepted a position with the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office as an investigator before being promoted to Chief Deputy in 1984.  In 1992 Marshall was elected Sheriff of McDuffie County and continues to serve as the county’s chief law enforcement officer. During his tenure as sheriff he has been an active member of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association, serving on the Association’s Board of Directors, the Legislative Committee, and Chairman of the By Laws Committee.  He is also a member of the National Sheriffs’ Association and a graduate of the 1994 National Sheriff’s Institute.

“The sheriffs of this state must stay abreast of legislative issues that may affect law enforcement, the Office of Sheriff, and the citizens.  I pledge to be a leader in making a difference and upholding justice in a fair and impartial manner,” said Marshall.  “In addition, I am very interested in the well-being of the children in our state.  In the early 1950’s sheriffs found a way to serve abused and neglected children through the creation of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes.   I will make it a priority to encourage our sheriffs and their communities to continue supporting the children in our state and the Youth Homes.”

The Georgia Sheriffs' Association is comprised of 159 elected sheriffs with the support of over 45,000 honorary members throughout the state who recognize and appreciate the service of the constitutional Office of Sheriff and the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes, Inc.

Sheriff Marshall is the first African-American sheriff to assume the prestigious position of President of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association.
