Jail Officer Courses: 80-Hour Basic Jail Officer Course (BJOC): Purpose: This state-mandated entry level jail program for jail officers prepares the officer to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with legislative and case law decisions. A jail officer who successfully completes this course will meet the training requirements for POST Jail Officer Certification. Check the website often for updates. 47-Hour Basic Jail Officer Course (BJOC): Purpose: This course provides the certified deputy the opportunity to understand basic issues concerning jails, their operations, and specific jail skills as taught in the 80-hour course. A certified law enforcement officer who successfully completes this course will meet the training requirements for POST Jail Officer Certification. Date: The 47-Hour class will not be offered as a stand alone class. If you are a certified officer and wish to take the 47-Hour BJOC, you must attend six days of training during the 80-Hour BJOC, usually three days the first week and three days the second week. Registration: Contact Tonia Welch, Training Director, for more information or to register. 24-Hour Basic Jail Officer Course (BJOC): Purpose: This course provides the certified correctional officer the opportunity to understand basic issues concerning jails, their operations, and specific jail skills. A certified correctional officer who successfully completes the 24-Hour BJOC course will meet the training requirements for POST Jail Officer Certification. Date: February 26-28, 2008 Date: September 24-26, 2008 Legal Issues in Today's Jail Purpose: This three-day seminar will address key legal issues facing your jail today and the dramatic Supreme Court decisions fo the last twelve months. The most recent court rulings will be explained with emphasis on how they affect jail management. This course is designed for mid- to upper-level managers such as sheriffs, jail administrators, deputy administrators, personnel managers, supervisors, and training officers.
